Sayori’s death is one of the most traumatizing character swipes in any game, and attempts to expose, in its own mean way, the fragility of the human mind. This visual novel is much deeper than it initially appears, and information about the game is still being discovered. And while some elements of the plot are not explained, this simply leaves room for interpretation, and possible plot additions in future games, such as the one the developers are currently working on, which could reveal a lot of secrets about Doki Doki. This game isn’t trying to be something that it’s not, and for that reason it is one of the most traumatizing gaming experiences ever. Nowadays, most scary games try too hard to be scary. The story itself as actual depth to it, which is something few modern horror games can actually achieve.

In fact, what this game does best is mess with your mind and emotions slowly making you fall in love with a character only to find them swiped away by a cruel twist in the plot. But as it progresses it reveals a touching and truly disturbing story about depression and what gaming really means. The plot starts out cheesy, like a romantic comedy. From happiness to sadness to straight out terror, this visual novel is first class psychological horror at its best. No game (NOTE: that I’ve ever come across) has provided this level and number of extremely complex emotions.
